Mediation, when a problem's worth solving

Facilitative mediation is a process in which all parties related to a conflict contribute to a suitable solution.  Even though a conflict may seem intractable--no one can fathom a way out--the process of mediation can open avenues and turn even seemingly insurmountable differences into matters that become negotiable.

How does that happen?  It's a question to which Julie M. Cowie of Congruency has given a great amount of thought.

One building block of successful conflict resolution comes from deep listening that ensures the party enmeshed in a dispute is heard.

Another distinct element of mediation is the act of witnessing--being present to--all parties in the midst of their dilemma.  This makes the act of mediation distinctly different from any other prior attempt to solve a problem.

A third aspect of mediation is patience.  Julie M. Cowie of Congruency offers the hours of time needed for parties to express themselves, and the non-judging attitude that moves people forward to willingly solve the issue at hand.

Teaching mediation is one of Julie Cowie's favorite things to do, and it shows.  Currently credentialed by Michigan's State Court Administrative Office to offer the MCR 2.411 General Civil Mediation Training, Julie M. Cowie of Congruency works with agencies to present this stimulating and professional skill-building curriculum.
